Eat. Sleep.
Code. And do it all over again

I never would of thought about pursuing web developing as a career. Learning skills of HTML, CSS, and a little JavaScript has opened so many doors to my future, and doors in my mind.

Myself

I am going to be a sophomore at Omaha North High School. I'm 14 years old, getting ready to turn 15 soon. Some passions of mine are music, coding, and swimming or basketball. Coding has recently taken a part in my life. I want to graduate college, try to get a scholarship for MIT or UNO. If I don't get a scholarship, it's okay. But I still would like to attend.

Future Plans

I'm almost positive that I want to get a degree in Computer Science or some type of engineering.. It's something I feel very strongly about, and it is something that has taken a space in my heart. And i'm very thankful for that.

Impact

Coming from my freshman year, i applied for a summer code camp. After nights of anxiety and waiting, I got an email saying that I got into the program. Throughout the course, I was taught skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This program has helped me find out more about myself, and what else I can learn. In a way, I feel connected to coding. It may sound weird, but i've become very passionate for it (which I personally think that's a good thing). Not only has it helped me have a more structered plan in my head for my futre, it taught me skills beyond computer insider knowledge. It has taught me friendship, dedication, group-skills, commitment, social skills, and much more.

Subjects of Matter

definitely fill this in Hannah

  • How has OCS:Highlander has changed your life?

OCS: Highlander is one of the best things to happen in my life so far. And I'm very thankful for that. It not only has changed my mind-set on some things, it has helped me structure the idea of my future. Before this program, I had no idea of what I wanted to be after highschool. Well thanks to OCS: Highlander, I think I found what I want to do.

  • What was the biggest challenge you faced with the program?

The biggest challenge I faced was interacting with others. I'm always too shy or too scared to say anything to anyone. But with how comforting my peers are, I began to talk more and more.

  • What do you plan to do with your newly acquired development skills?

I'm defintely going to try and pursue this as a career. I'm really looking at places like Flywheel and Agape. But I got a little while until then. I'm going to use these skills as an advantage.

  • What motivated you to attend this course over the summer?

Motivation is something I struggle with everyday. I have a lack of motivation in everything. But at the beginning of the program, I felt comfortable here. It's like a second home, but I don't live here. The motivation came from the passion i began to have.

Shout Outs

I would like to give a huge shout out to my instructors Mr. Swanson and Mr. Coleman. They are two of the best teachers I've ever had. Not only have they taught me skills in development, but they've taught me life long skills that I'm going to need. I can't say how much I appreciate having them as instructors. I also want to give a shout out to Greg. For keeping us fed, and making sure we had everything we need. I appreciate it! Shout out to the people who started this program. I wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't for you. So thank you. And finally, shout out to my peers and friends in the program. I never thought I'd make friends in this program. But somehow, I feel comfortable with you guys. You fee like family to me. And that means a lot. Thank you to everyone!!
